Many additional resources are available to students of the Canadian military colleges through the Canadian Forces Virtual Library.


These resources are only available on the College Edunet network or remotely via the Web Portal.

Encyclopedias

  • CAIRN offers encyclopedic content comprising all items from the « Que sais-je? » and « Repères » collections. This represents access to more than 1800 titles on various subjects. Furthermore, full-text articles from numerous scholarly publications dating between 2 and 5 years back are also freely available.
  • Histoire à la carte (French only)
    This resource offers a vast collection of animated historical maps. It currently contains more than 220 maps, covering all periods of time – from Antiquity through the twentieth century – and is regularly updated.
  • Encyclopedia Universalis (French only)

Ebooks

  • Deslibris is an independent platform for the dissemination of LAC contents. It also serves as a site for the exploration of Canadian publications. Its public site has more than 76,000 titles (more than 26,000 books, most of them in English), most of which are available in full text to the users of the library.
  • This resource offers more than 9800 titles (mostly in English), from renowned Canadian editors, selected for their relevancy towards Canada.

  • Repère (French only)
    Repère contains 597 000 bibliographic records of French language articles (1980- ), full-text of 22 300 articles and links to 103 900 articles available online.
  • Eureka contains over 80 million articles covering more than 20 years, enhanced by more than a hundred thousand articles daily. Available media sources publish Canadian and international news in English and French. A wide selection of sources covers national, regional, and local news: Trade journals, Dailies and magazines, Radio and television program transcripts, Specialized economics, finance, and environmental publications, Websites, News wires, Blogs, etc.
  • Érudit (French only)
    More than 150 scholarly and cultural journals and 200 000 publications are available on Érudit platform ensuring access to one of the largest body of literature of the Francophone research.
  • Search from a highly-respected, diversified mix of thousands of scholarly journals, professional and trade publications, and magazines covering over 150 subjects and topics. (Business, Health & Medicine, History, Literature & Language, Science & Technology, Social Sciences, Arts).
  • JSTOR is a shared digital library that includes more than 2,300 full-text academic journals. Our current subscription widely covers subjects under the Social Sciences umbrella, mainly in History, Business, Education, Language & Literature, Political Science and Sociology.
  • Persée (French only)
    Persée is a program which was created for the digital publication of scientific journals in the field of the humanities. It currently contains 146 complete series and provides free access to over 4 million content pages.
  • Revues.org is a journals platform for the humanities and social sciences. Founded in 1999, it is now home to 400 online publications – that’s over 100 000 articles – from which 95% are available in full-text access.
  • This resource includes national and leading regional papers such as National Post, Calgary Herald, Edmonton Journal, Montreal Gazette, Ottawa Citizen, Regina Leader Post, Vancouver Sun and the Victoria Times-Colonist.
  • Canadian Military Journal is the official professional journal of the Canadian Armed Forces and the Department of National Defence. It is published quarterly under authority of the Minister of National Defence.
