Code of Conduct and Rules

A. Code of Conduct

  1. Courtesy is de rigueur at all times at the library, both with staff any member of the RMC Saint-Jean community.
  2. Behaviours such as: yelling, running, throwing objects, behave rowdily or disturb other library users are forbidden.
  3. It is permitted to drink non-alcoholic beverages in containers with lids. For example: water, coffee, juice, etc.
  4. It is permitted to eat a snack in the library. For example: a muffin, a cereal bar.
  5. Listening to music is permitted provided that headphones are used.
  6. To chat on your cell phone, please exit the library.
  7. Users are required to notify the library staff at the circulation desk of any damage incurred by the consumption of a drink or a snack. Staff will provide them with cleaning materials and help them clean up, if required.
  8. Tables, chairs, and whiteboard pencils and rags must be returned to their original location after use.

B. Use of the Library Collection & User Account

  1. All objects and documents made available to library users, including textbooks, must be recorded in the user's user file before leaving the library.
  2. The user is responsible for the documents and objects recorded in his user account. Damaged or lost items entered in the user account will be subject to an administrative deduction (payroll withdrawal).
    • It is therefore forbidden to annotate, write, highlight, cut out, tear, fold pages or otherwise damage the documents.
    • Water damaged documents (crinkled pages) are considered damaged.
  3. Anyone damaging, intentionally or not, the library furniture and library computers made available to users will have to bear the cost.
  4. Due documents must be duly returned to the library. A document may be renewed only if no reservation has been made for it by another user.
  5. The content of the library user account is confidential, except when an administrative deduction for a damaged or lost document is required.
  6. Let the library staff put books, DVDs and magazines back on the shelves. Place the documents consulted and not borrowed on the reshelving carts available on each floor.

C. Use of Spaces

  1. General
    1. To enter and exit the library, all patrons must use the library entrance door located on the 2nd floor. Emergency exits are for emergencies only. (e.g. fire alarm)
    2. The 2nd floor is a space dedicated to calm and individual work. Teamwork is prohibited on that floor
      • Les usagers sont priés d’utiliser les divers espaces lounge ou collaboratifs du 1er étage de la bibliothèque pour jaser et se divertir en groupe. Users are requested to use either the lounge or the collaborative spaces located on the 1st floor of the library to chat and entertain themselves in groups.
    3. The 1st floor (ground floor) is a collaborative space where you can both work both alone or in teams. Although this space is noisier, the rule #2 of the Code of Conduct applies to this space.
  2. Teamwork Rooms
    1. Teamwork rooms can be occupied by a minimum of 2 people per room. Individual work is not allowed there.
    2. Only RMC Saint-Jean staff members may reserve a teamwork room. Officer Cadets use the rooms in self-service mode.
    3. People who have reserved a team room have priority. Users who have settled in a reserved room must have vacated the room 5 minutes before the time of the reservation.
    4. The reservation schedule for each room is displayed near each teamwork rooms door. Please have a look at them before settling into a team room.
  3. Collaborative Room
    1. The collaborative room (1st floor) may be reserved by RMC Saint-Jean staff to teach a course or hold a meeting. Officer Cadets use this room in self-service mode
    2. Users are requested to leave quickly the collaborative space when it has been reserved by staff members.
    3. Users installed close by the collaborative room are requested to be discreet when activities are in progress in this space.
    4. The collaborative room reservation schedule is displayed on a totem pole at the bottom of the library stairs when reserved during the current week. Please check the reservation schedule before settling in that space.
