Programmes

RMC Saint-Jean ensures officer / naval cadets a smooth transition from high school to university by providing college-level and first-year university programmes in Science and Social Science. Each programme is offered in the first official language of the applicant and includes the Preparatory Year and First Year.

Preparatory Year

Preparatory Year, commonly known as Prep Year, is equivalent to grade 12 in most provinces and to the first year of college-level studies (CEGEP) in Quebec. Prep Year is the normal entry point into the Canadian Military Colleges (CMCs) for Quebec high-school graduates. This academic year is also designed for applicants from across Canada who demonstrate strong academic ability but are missing prerequisites for direct admission to First Year. Following successful completion of Prep Year, officer / naval cadets typically begin their undergraduate degree at RMC Saint-Jean.

First Year

This academic year is equivalent to the first year of university-level programmes offered at Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) in Kingston. Applicants who meet the prerequisites may be given the opportunity to complete First Year at RMC Saint- Jean without the need to attend Prep Year. Upon completion of their two years of study, officer/ naval cadets who meet all the requirements of the Quebec Department of Education receive a diploma of college studies (DSC). After completing the Preparatory Year and First Year at RMC Saint-Jean, officer/ naval cadets then pursue their university studies at RMC in Kingston, Ontario or at RMC Saint-Jean.
