Instrumentation - Science Department

The Science Department is equipped with biology, chemistry and physics instruments used for teaching and research purposes:

Perkin Elmer Lambda 25 UV/Vis Spectrophotometer

This instrument features a fixed-bandwidth system and is ideal for routine UV/Vis applications and regulatory tests. It has a 1nm SBW configuration and meets all pharmacopeia requirements. Cell changers allow for flexible sampling and cell holders are Peltier controlled. Stray Light: <0.01% at 220 nm; Photometric Accuracy: ±0.001 Å.

Perkin Elmer Lambda LS-45 Fluorescence Spectrometer

The PE LS-45 fluoresence spectrometer features fixed slits for dependable routine use. The pulsed Xe-lamp offers an improved low-light detection capability and minimizes photobleaching of samples while delivering accurate spectra. Delay and gate time can be varied to measure phosphorescence. Polarization spectra can also be acquired as well as single and multiple wavelength kinetics.

Spectrum 65 FTIR-ATR

The Spectrum 65 features an improved rotary interferometer with an ATR accessory. The large sample compartment can accomodate a wide range of sampling accessories such as temperature-controlling devices, cryostats, etc. Spectral resolution: 0.5 cm-1.

AMG EVOS ci Digital Inverted Brightfield and Phase Contrast Microscope

The EVOS ci is an all-in-one, high-performance brightfield phase contrast microscope designed to make transmitted light cell culture microscopy as reliable and effective as possible by delivering excellent flexibility and accuracy. The EVOS ci is configured specifically for doing cell isolation work.

AURORA 1205A 10.0N in vitro Muscle Test System

The 1205A is a complete test system for evaluating the mechanical characteristics of intact muscle with peak forces of up to 5N or 10N. The muscle preparation is held vertically in a water-jacketed bath. Both force and length can be controlled and measured as well as length-tension, force-velocity, force-stimulation frequency, stiffness and work loop protocols.

Phase Contrast Micromaster Infinity Optics Microscope

This microscope features Infinity-corrected optics providing consistent image flatness up to F.N. 22. It has an extra-large 22mm field of view and inverted Y stand for efficiency and balanced stability. It also features a swing-out condenser, and a four-position nosepiece. A camera can be fitted to the microscope to project images on a screen.
